On Thursday night a group of students overturned a trashcan in the student lounge resulting in myself, my supervisor and the AGM of the hotel cleaning up fried chicken bones, spaghetti, and ramen noodles together. I was not pleased. My supervisor was not pleased. The lounge remained locked Friday and Saturday due to this incident. Sunday I came off the elevator on my floor only to be greeted by fried chicken bones spread all over the hallway. I was not happy. I'm still not happy. To make matters worse, someone had dumped their trash on top of an already full trash can in the disposal room without a trash bag. The trash fell all over the floor. I cleaned it up. I was not happy.
I would refuse to clean up after the students after these incidents, but I know it would only result in our already overworked housekeeping staff cleaning it up because the students feel it is unnecessary for them to take on any responsibilities. I refuse to allow the housekeeping staff to do more work than it is already assigned to do on a daily basis on the student floors. These women and men take home a check of about 120 dollars max every two weeks and they put up with a lot of irresponsible bullshit from the students. That's just not enough money for the work that is required of them. The students don't appreciate them, someone needs to show they are appreciated.
In other news: My school royally pissed me off this week by announcing that for Thanksgiving they would be giving turkeys to all of the managers of the hotel, but when asked if they would be providing the same courtesy to the associates they stated they could not afford it. The managers of the hotel I live in make between 50 and 75 Thousand yearly. Because they are salaried, their pay comes before any hourly person's pay. What I'm saying is, in a hotel that can barely afford to pay its associates right now, the managers are doing just fine and can more than afford a fucking turkey. Our associates, on the other hand, don't have health insurance, because they can't afford it, nor do some of them have heat in their homes right now- at a time when the weather is cooling. Most of them have notices in their mail and on their doors about past due rent and bills- and the school can't afford to give these hard working people a goddamn turkey? Actually, they can. In fact, they can order 30 turkeys and make it a requirement for one of the culinary labs to roast them off as part of their final grade. But maybe I'm just being too forward thinking.
On the lighter side of things, I'm a bit pissed at blockbuster right now. I have an online subscription to blockbuster, and generally things go pretty smoothly; however, lately things seem to have a lot of kinks in them. I think it is a combination of the postal office cutting back and blockbuster cutting back. I've reported multiple DVDs as having never arrived at my residence within the past several weeks as well as multiple DVDs not clearing my queue in a timely manner. I always wait at least four days before reporting a DVD issue. But, because I have had so many problems with shipping lately, when I reported today I had received a broken DVD the website told me I had reported an unusual number of issues and was no longer eligible to have a replacement DVD shipped immediately. SAY WHAT? I wrote a very angry letter to Blockbuster stating I didn't feel it was necessary to punish me for the number of issues I've reported lately as they are all issues that are either occurring within the warehouse or are occurring during mailing.
Want it short and sweet? People should clean the fuck up after themselves and we should care for everyone, not just the elite.
