Women, and Google Alerts

Published on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 8am

I set up google alert to tell me when it finds my name or screen name. A while ago I found a site called OpenPhoto.net. I signed up and uploaded a bunch of pics I took in college and set them all to Public Domain, so people can edit them and not have to credit me, ask me for permission, and can use it for commercial purposes if they like.

Anyways, I get a google alert today with a link to this page. The article is about women's roles in modern culture and gender identity. The author used a picture I took of a bathroom sign. The reason why I took the photo in the first place was because the woman depicted on the sign has only one leg. That bathroom's male counter-part had a sign of a man (in the standard position, lacking a non-form fitting triangle dress), however he had two legs....
Now, I'm fine if they decided to use a one legged woman for a sign, but the thing that got me was.... why was her leg centered up under her torso o.0

In the spirit of the article, here are some links to a few TED talks I've seen recently by female speakers.
