Christmas

AAAAARGH!
Just to let you know how i feel. I can't stand christmas, all the presents, all the decorations, the family staying and trashing your house. Grr...
It's not that i don't like the principal of christmas - i'm not a christian personally, but everybody has a right to celebrate their religious festivals. The thing that gets to me is the commercialisation, and the hypocracy of it all. Jesus did NOT say giving people gifts was a good thing, and in fact did not approve of possesions full stop. As far as i can see, there is no need to decorate a christmas tree any more than decorating a tree on midsummers eve. And christmas was only placed on december 25th to help absorb the pagan holiday of saturnalia! I mean, honestly, how many lambs are there wandering around near you, just ready to be brought to the baby Jesus? None? Thought so.
The "traditions" are not even real - most of them came about in the victorian period, when everything began to be commercialised. So turkey as a tradit. chrimbo dinner? I think not - it's only been available since we discovered America! The real traditions are those of raucous feasting, demanding food from those richer than you, and staying up all through the longest night of the year (which the 25 isnt actually, but still). It was only in the 19th century that christmas was made a time for peace, sharing and family, and that was to stop rioters from destroying too much of the upper class's property!
So anyway, now i've had my rant, Happy Christmas!

What is a real tradition? Surely all traditions are, in the strictest sense, social constructions.
