Not worth reading, but proof of life

Published on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 4am

Whoa. I've been gone for a while. My apologies, my little ones. If I didn't constantly forget that my laptop is in fact portable rather than just being a desktop terminal, I would have tried to write sooner from my horizontal position. "Why horizontal?" I hear a number of you in the crowd asking aloud. Well don't worry about it. I was attacked by a madman with a scalpel and some silver nitrate. I rather suspect that he'll try leaches next. Really though, it's quite boring, so I'll drop the subject here.

And now, advice. Never, no matter how much you love the person and how much he or she may want it, never buy anyone near and dear to you a Herman's Hermits CD. I may be trying to enjoy a fine Bad Brains album in the solitude of my apartment, but I'm still hearing, "I'm 'Enery the 8th, I am!"

Hey, did you know that you can get a concussion from a combination of dead dear trying to get in the car with you and a side-curtain airbag getting between you and him? Well, I had a theory that you could, so I decided to test it. Con-friggin-firmed! It can also make you go half deaf on one side. :D

I've had a lot of time to read and to watch DVDs. Go buy William Gibson's latest, Spook Country. I also owe much of my remaining sanity to Mishima, "Gran Turismo 4," "The Rockford Files: Season 1," "The Maxx" trades and Rush. Lastly, if you haven't seen it, go watch "Pan's Labyrinth" a million times in a row. Lici, I'll admit that there's no David Bowie in it, but give it a try anyway. Just do what I did and play "Earthling" really loud every time the Fawn is speaking. It helps in the transition from the classic to the new classic.

For those of you keeping track, Kenneth Foster is doing well NOT on death row. How awesome is that!?! Throw your hands in the air! There's also a sort of moratorium in place while the Supreme Court reconsiders lethal injection as cruel and unusual. Each case is still having to be appealed as the death warrant is issued and one man was executed anyway because his attorney's computer crashed and a judge refused to allow a late filing. In the end, it will most likely be settled by some minor change in the mechanics of the poison injection process, but there's still hope. Even if it should go back to little different than it was, at least a few men lived a little longer because of it. In this mess, that's a victory. Perhaps not deserving of champagne [and beer and vodka and whiskey and more vodka and more vodka... jeez, those Italians can drink] like Kenneth's new shot at life, but you take what you can get.

Been seeing a lot of that lately. Some live, some die. You can only feel bad about being tossed on the storm until you see those who were dashed on the rocks. Even if you're the one on the rocks, it's hard not to admire the beauty of the storm and start wanting to quote "American Beauty." Every time I've thought I knew something lately, I'm faced with the reality that I had no idea. Shame it doesn't work the other way sometimes.

Ah, the ever cathartic Mishima, although crediting mindlessly repetitive PS2 games (eternal recurrence comes immediately to mind) for your sanity is a bit like crediting Cioran for your optimistic appraisal of humanity. I did recently notice Pan’s Labyrinth on one of my skirmishes into Amazon.co.uk and it did look intriguing, I will rent it post haste. I’m glad to hear that Foster is no longer on death row. Welcome back to Loowa.

Pan's Labyrinth rocked my socks! I totally wished i had seen in in theatres, but really, it is an amazing movie.

Sure a part of me dies inside when i mention Labyrinth and people think i mean Pan's Labyrinth, but knowing it is a good movie, does set my mind at ease.

Hope you're feeling better! *huggles*
